LEAN-TO COTTAGE

This picture shows a typical Irish thatch cottage by the sea taken in Co. Galway. The lean-to represents an extra storage room, where turf and timber would be stored during the winter. As Irish thatch cottages were traditionally only two or three roomed cottages, this provided extra space and was man-made.
