PADDY JOE'S COTTAGE
This is Paddy Joe's cottage. It's a traditional thatched cottage nestled into the valley by the water’s edge.
The small stone thatched shed behind would often be called a piggery and would also house chickens, geese and ducks in the winter months.
The lean-to at the front was used for storing the turf from the local bog for winter fuel for the open fire. The fire would be flamed by a bellows and was typically the only heat inside the thatch cottage.
